At the NRC meeting held at Bellevue in 1985, the No.1's decided that Dunbar would host the Scottish leg of the National Runs calendar for it's third consecutive year. The rally went ahead on the weekend of 22 / 23d of June but the site was changed from the previous years. In 1983 & 84 the Barracks Carpark in the centre of town was used as a makeshift campsite as no proper site had been secured due to the lack of cooperation from the council at the time. As was the norm in the early eighties the scootering fraternity rolled into town and camped wherever they seen fit and didn't give a jot.
In 85 (in a move to dissuade the return of the rally) the Barracks Carpark was barricaded up and a campsite outside town on a windswept beach was provided. Apart from Southport, this campsite turned out to be one of worse we had encountered but as Scooterists do as only Scooterists can, we took it on the chin and carried on regardless and had a ball. The rally was a success but many had decided that it was time to move onto pastures new and give the town of Dunbar a deserving break, much to the relief of the local townsfolk but probably to the dismay of the local publicans. In the consequential years, Dunbar was never again to hold a National Scooter Rally.
As it is 25 years since the 85 rally, the club have decided that we couldn't let this anniversary milestone pass us bye, so have organised the Return to Dunbar Rally 25 years on, in recognition of the Dunbar Rally's of the early eighties.
